3rd post - - Grade THIS!

In this post, I will be talking about public courtesy.

Just a few days ago, I was taking a wheelchair-friendly bus back home. The doors on the wheelchair-friendly buses are slightly larger so as to aid handicapped passengers in boarding On that hot, sweltering day, the sympathetic driver switched the air-conditioning to its naximum setting. Just as I was reading about the fight between Percy Jackson and Ares, God of War (Yes! It's the climax, for goodness sake!) There was a sudden 'boom'! and two voices penetrated the silence. A verbal war had broken out.

A portly middle-aged malay man and an elderly chinese man were quarreling about someone pushing someone else ( albeit the larger door). The crowd standing in the middle section of the bus quickly retreated to the back, the bus so quiet that I could hear every word of the argument perfectly clearly. From what I could understand ( They were quarreling in malay, hokkien and singlish ), the elderly man was accusing  the malay man of pushing him at the entrance. Angered by the accusation, the malay man retaliated verbally. As the argument heated up, tensions mounted and the atmosphere became increasingly frenetic.

Fortunately, the bus driver worked hand-in-hand with an off-duty policeman and separated the both of them as a means to prevent further friction

Even though Singapore is a state-of-the-art technological and business centre, with one of the strongest economies in Asia, in many instances, Singaporeans fail to show basic public courtesy. Instead of quarrelling over trivial affairs, we should take after countries like Japan and Taiwan and learn about public courtesy from them. Only then will Singapore be recognised as a mature country with beautiful citizens by other countries, and, more importantly, by ourselves.
